Hanapepe has been the shooting location of many beloved major motion pictures. Notably the fictional town ‘Kokaua’ was inspired by Hanapepe in the Disney film Lilo & Stitch. The mini series Thornbirds also had several episodes shot in the area.
Overlooking Hanapepe’s swinging bridge built in the turn of the century . The Hanapepe River is popular for kayaking and flows out into Port Allen.
Hanapepe Art Night
With a vibrant local art community spurred by ‘Friday Art Night’ which has been going since 1997, Hanapepe is a destination for those who appreciate culture and a taste of old Kaua’i.
Main Street
Hanapepe is host to art galleries, gift shops, and the only book store on the island. Weekly farmers markets and live music on art nights are a draw for locals and visitors alike .

Climate
Located southwest side of Kaua’i, Hanapepe enjoys the best weather on the island. While parts of Kaua’i are famous for record rainfall, the geography prevents these conditions from reaching the leeward side. Hanapepe hosts all the boat tours to the Na Pali Coast and close access to Waimea Canyon, Kokee State Park and Polihale Beach, the longest beach in the Hawaiian Islands.
Next to the Aloha Theatre is the Talk Story Bookstore, the only bookstore on the island of Kaua’i . We love our neighbors!
